The role of SODIAM E.P. in transforming geological wealth into a driver of
sustainability and transparency in the world market.

The Angolan mining industry is undergoing a profound metamorphosis. At the
heart of this transformation is Angola’s National Diamond Trading Company,
SODIAM E.P., the Titanium sponsor of the Angola International Mining
Conference (AIMC) 2025. Their participation in the summit, which will bring
together leaders and specialists in Luanda, underscores a strategic commitment:
not merely to control and supervise diamond trading, but to promote a business
model that unites global excellence with social responsibility and national added
value.

It is fundamental to understand the scope of SODIAM E.P.’s mandate. The
company operates as the official public trading body and the sole channel – a
structure defined by the Mining Code. This position grants it the responsibility of
ensuring transparency, predictability, and administrative streamlining in fiscal
revenues and transactions. SODIAM E.P.’s action extends beyond mere
commercial transactions; it involves ensuring the State’s compliance with its
obligations under the Kimberley Process, preventing diamonds from financing
conflict, and promoting best practices in the sector, as per the Declaration of Best
Practices. In essence, it is about positioning Angola as an ethical and reliable
supplier of natural diamonds.

The Imperative of Value Addition
The core of SODIAM E.P.’s thought leadership lies in the strategy to maximise
the diamond’s impact on Angola’s development. The mission to promote trading
and transformation, capitalising income into future-generating assets, is
materialised in concrete initiatives. The Saurimo Diamond Development Hub
(PDDS) constitutes the most notable example of this plan.

The PDDS is not merely an industrial estate; it is an ecosystem. The central
objective is to bring together companies from across the entire value chain, offer
suitable infrastructure, and boost the development of the activity. Creating a
space that combines a restricted-access, high-security Industrial Area, suitable
for housing diamond cutting and polishing factories, with a public-access
Commercial Area offering essential services (banks, offices, convention centre),
demonstrates a holistic vision. Guaranteeing the venture’s energy independence
with a Hybrid Power Plant (solar + thermal) reflects a concern for sustainability
and long-term operational efficiency.

Associated with this hub, the Diamond Cutting, Polishing, and Grading
Training Centre (CEFOLAD) fulfils a highly relevant social and economic
function. Training Angolan staff, primarily from diamond-rich regions, to address
the shortage of skilled labour and minimise the effort required by factory units to
recruit qualified professionals, ensures local employability. This is a robust
mechanism for empowering young people, directly contributing to community
development and transforming mineral wealth into human capital.

Global Governance and Investment Opportunities
Internationally, SODIAM E.P. maintains representative offices, such as SODIAM
ANTWERP BVBA in Belgium, and actively explores crucial markets like Israel,
Dubai, Shanghai, and Macau. The vision of becoming a global benchmark
company in the ethical and responsible supply of natural diamonds dictates the
adoption of international sales models, namely sights (long-term contract sales),
spots (seasonal sales), and auctions (tenders).

The new trading model aims to restructure the old system of ‘Preferred Clients’
into one of ‘Long-Term Contract Clients’, ensuring greater transparency and
consistency in the acquisition of Angolan diamonds, even during periods of global
price volatility. The requirement for entering into contracts involves proving legal
capacity, integrity (probity), and technical and financial capability, prioritising
those who demonstrate stability and use diamonds as an integral part of their
main economic activity.

For investors, opportunities to engage with SODIAM E.P. include the purchase of
rough diamonds and investment in infrastructure initiatives, with the PDDS
being a highlight. Competing for a space in the PDDS means submitting a
detailed proposal outlining the intended activity, the size of the required space,
the jobs to be created, and the business plan. It is a clear invitation to participate
in structuring a regional diamond hub.

Social Impact and Sustainability
The sustainability of the Angolan diamond industry is a transformative movement.
SODIAM E.P. plays a vital role by providing support for social infrastructure –
from the construction of schools and universities to professional training centres.
Continuous support for the Brilhante Foundation and institutions like the Lucrécia
Paim Maternity Hospital in Luanda demonstrates a commitment to promoting
local development and social inclusion.

By supporting sports clubs such as Futebol Clube Bravos do Maquis, the
company contributes to sports promotion and the training of young athletes,
extending its influence beyond the strict scope of mining.

AIMC 2025 is the ideal platform to debate this leadership model. With sessions
dedicated to topics like “Downstream Development and Value Addition” and
“Unlocking Angola’s Mineral Wealth through Beneficiation,” the conference
will provide the environment for sharing best practices and fostering partnerships.
The SODIAM E.P. case study, with the implementation of the PDDS and
CEFOLAD, should serve as a catalyst for driving the discussion on how to
achieve AIMC’s vision: promoting Angola as a strategic hub for attracting
investment, aligned with the National Development Plan.

SODIAM E.P.’s thought leadership is built on the firm purpose of ensuring that
the diamond, Angola’s geological wealth, is synonymous with an ethical,
transparent, and prosperous future. Building a legacy where sustainability, value
addition, and social responsibility are at the heart of all transactions is
consolidating Angola’s position on the global map.
